Caring 4 Kids Cove

Kids Cove needs your help!
In 2000 and 2001, a group of community members collaborated with the City of Lakewood to envision and build a state-of-the-art playground. In an attempt to protect the work they completed, a city-wide project is developing in order to provide ongoing maintenance to the playground.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates 200,000 children visit emergency rooms in the U.S. each year due to playground accidents. About 80% of those injuries are the result of falling. Caring For Kids Cove is committed to making Kids Cove safer for all the children who visit the playground.
One of our most important plans involves replacing the wood chips, especially in impact areas (such as the landing areas at the bottom of the slides), with industry-standard rubber mats. These mats are safer than mulch, last longer and do not get displaced, and are made from recycled rubber that allows rainwater to be absorbed into the ground rather than running off into the city's sewer system. This is going to be expensive, so fund raising efforts are already under way. If you can help by donating money, or by helping us raise money, please contact us by filling out the form below.
We also plan to refinish the wood surfaces, in order to help them withstand our Lakewood weather, and replace and repair signs and other broken equipment.
The Lakewood Foundation has agreed to process all donations to the Caring For Kids Cove project. Donations can be sent to:

A meeting will be held on Saturday, September 29th at 11am, at Kids Cove to discuss plans for the playground in detail.
We'd like as many people, from as many backgrounds, as possible to be involved! This project is as much about building community as it is about rebuilding the playground.
